“My experience with chiropractic began in the womb – as my mother sought chiropractic care during her pregnancy to ease her pregnancy related low back pain and facilitate her birth, after two difficult ones prior….”
Hi! I’m Dr. Theriault. I am a licensed Chiropractic Doctor (DC) and I make people feel better, naturally.
A little about my health journey
While in Montreal, I experienced neck pain related to studying and sought chiropractic treatment, which piqued my interest and appreciation for chiropractic care once again.
As a result, I continued my post-secondary education by attending the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) and obtained my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree. While attending CMCC, I also achieved my Functional Integrated Acupuncture certification.
My areas of interest include:
- Neck pain
- Pelvic and hip pain
- Mid and low back pain
- Prenatal and post partum care
- Pregnancy care
- Chronic headaches and tension
- Herniated disk
- Pediatric care
- Osteoarthritis support
- Infants and newborns
- Lactation support
- Proper breathing, facial development and tongue positioning
I was raised in Cornwall Ontario, where I played competitive soccer and danced with the MacCulloch dancers. I have always been fascinated by the human body and decided to learn more about it by attending McGill University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
HAVE A QUESTION? WE HAVE SOME ANSWERS.
Doctors of Chiropractic, called ‘chiropractors’ are spine, muscle, joint & nervous system experts
Chiropractors are trained to evaluate, diagnose, recommend & deliver a treatment plan that manages issues within these systems, according to your preferences.
Chiropractors use the best available evidence and clinical expertise to diagnose issues that affect your body’s movement. They treat them without medication or surgery and prevent them from returning
Chiropractic care is a patient-centered, non-invasive, hands-on, regulated health care professional focus on your spine, muscles, joints & nervous system
To provide appropriate care, a treatment plan is based on the best available evidence, combined with clinical expertise. The chiropractor works with you to determine the best treatment to relieve your pain. They will also help prevent it from returning and restore your mobility.
Chiropractic care can also promote health and improve your quality of life, as well as alleviate pain.
Some of the conditions that chiropractors treat include:
- Back pain/discomfort
- Neck pain/discomfort
- Extremity pain/discomfort o Muscular strains
- Ligament sprains
- Pain associated with arthritis
- Pre & Post-partum care
- Pediatric care (stay tuned for more!)
On your first visit, the chiropractor will take you through a thorough history to learn more about you and any of the discomforts you may be experiencing.
Following this, and with your permission, and hands-on physical examine will be performed to get a better idea of what may be causing your discomfort. The chiropractor will also discuss with you if they feel as though further imaging is required.
Using the information received from the intake forms, the history, and the physical exam, the chiropractor will provide an appropriate diagnosis and educate you on the condition
From there, the chiropractor will recommend a treatment plan, provide you with alternatives and obtain consent for treatment.
They will also complete and review any of the necessary paperwork with you.
One of the most frequent treatments a chiropractor uses is manual manipulation of the vertebrae of your spine and other joints, which is called an ‘adjustment’
To perform an adjustment, the chiropractor will apply a high velocity, low amplitude thrust to your joint and guide it through a range of motion. This action restores your joint’s natural movement and improves function.
An audible popping/cracking noise is often associated with an adjustment, and it is produced when opposing joint surfaces sperate rapidly, releasing pressure and creating subsequent gas cavities, similar to how when you open a can of something fizzy, you hear a popping noise!
